2010 must be a good year for grunge fans, now that Soundgarden has officially announced that the band will reunite in 2010. After months of a rumored comeback, it was only Friday morning when vocalist Chris Cornell shared the news via Twitter that the reunion was confirmed.

Chris Cornell wrote, “The 12 year break is over & school is back in session. Knights of the Soundtable ride again!”

The band broke up in 1997, but rumors of the reunion has run rampant throughout 2009. In October, all four members of the band reunited backstage at a PJ concert in Los Angeles with Cornell joining Eddie Vedder and Co. onstage for a rendition of “Hunger Strikes,” Soundgarden’s 1991 hit.

That’s not all. Billboard also reported that Soundgarden is planning a tour for 2010 and are currently in negotiations to perform at several U.S. and international festivals. The only thing that remains uncertain is if the group would be recording new material.
